Water carries

2025, Sound and Video Installation

A sound sculpture composed of water and a looped video of a boat drifting through the Amazon, Water Carries meditates on the slow passage of time and the layered memory of landscapes. The image appears almost static, yet subtle shifts reveal a living continuity beneath the surface. Scientific explorations suggest that water may hold traces of information — fleeting imprints of what it has encountered. In Kukama cosmology, rivers are more than matter; they are living beings with spirit, memory, and voice. The current doesn’t just flow — it listens, remembers, and speaks. Through a composition of field recordings and data sonification, Elena Victoria invites the river to speak in the first person. Could the river remember? Could water itself tell its own story?
